How to Choose the Right Glass Partition for Your Office

Glass partitions are one of the fastest ways to reshape an office — cabins, meeting rooms, reception areas — without the cost, dust and time of a brick-and-plaster wall. But "glass partition" covers a lot of ground. Here's how to narrow it down.

Framed or frameless?

Framed partitions use an aluminium frame around each glass panel. They're generally more affordable, quicker to install, and forgiving if the floor or ceiling isn't perfectly level. Frameless partitions use thicker toughened glass (usually 10–12mm) held by discreet fittings at the floor and ceiling, for a cleaner, more high-end look — at a higher cost and with less tolerance for an uneven site.

Clear, frosted, or something in between

Fully clear glass keeps the space feeling open and lets light travel through — good for general office areas. For cabins and meeting rooms where some privacy is expected, frosted bands, frosted film strips, or fully frosted lower sections are common middle grounds: you keep the light, lose the direct sightline.

What about sound?

Glass partitions are not great sound barriers by default — a single pane of glass, however thick, will pass through conversation-level noise. If acoustics genuinely matter (HR rooms, cabins for calls), ask about double-glazed partition units or adding an acoustic seal at the floor and frame junctions. It won't match a full brick wall, but it meaningfully cuts down bleed-through.

A short checklist before you order

• Floor-to-ceiling, or partial height with a gap above?
• Does the partition need a door, and which way should it swing or slide?
• Any cable runs or AC ducting that need to pass through or around it?
• Is the floor level enough for frameless glass, or is framed the safer call?

Our take

For most office cabins, framed partitions with a frosted lower band hit the best balance of cost, privacy and light. We reserve frameless glass for reception areas and spaces where the look matters more than the budget.
